I guess every one here has very much known about influenza, swine flu or H1N1 virus. These names has being going around the world for months. Few people have being spotted in Maldives with in the last few weeks. and soon we will have more. Till you can control it. I guess you will never know where and when you will be sting.
Last months i have being traveling and visited different countries. I have passed different domestic and international airport gates. Every where they have health posts doing on spot examination they can do. so i guess the health authorities are really serious about the FLU. And finally Male’ international airport. We came on a late flight, as usual we got a health form from the cabin crew.
Let me take you a bit in to the form, it got a section to tick and after that signature below saying everything is TRUE. The questions are the same but honestly speaking you already know what these Port health people have being do if you tick a cross on any box. So when we passed the immigration counters … wow a group of walk and talking thermal infrared (IR) Imaging cameras (i mean to say port health staffs). i guess these staffs are thermal sensing. i was a bit a shamed that out heath sector is so week.
Lets talk about IR cameras. My first experience on TV was National Geographic film maker Brady Barr, He was using it to detect animals in the dark because it detects heat. Also the second image shows how you get the result.
These cameras are available every where. People working close to health sector and others would know the right place to go. And some of these camera’s are less that NIKON D3x (USD 8000) and Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III (USD 6500). So spending like USD 20,000 on placing it in 2 international airports would instant filter something. Then we can have a chance to spot people.
Remember or economy is very fragile, we don’t have Cowrie shells or Coco de mar to give. Only tourism… lots of people will be visiting Maldives and we should think about our and their safety.
Talking about medical equipment and trained people. I guess we do have DNA analyzing machines, staff trained to work in laboratories. We just need some one to better manage the place. Any one have an idea when IGM hospital would install a CAT scan mechine.
By the way if any one has a Thermal gizmo i would like to play with it… may be i can add this to my real birthday wish list i guess :D.
